Epicurious Blind Taste Tests

These videos have a lot going for them: they feature packaged foods that we all eat sometimes, there are multiple testers, and the testers are experts in their fields. Not only are their opinions valuable, they help teach us viewers how to better judge foods ourselves by showing us what to look for. I have personally confirmed many of their picks to be superior quality. I am often surprised by the results, and the testers are as well. There are two patterns that I find especially interesting: Great Value often ranks highly in quality similar to the major competing brands while being one of the most affordable store brands, and Trader Joes has many of the least liked products despite costing more than average; the testers have become less surprised by this over time.

This isn’t just a list of the favorite picks at the end of each video. I do filter the results some in order to find the most overlap between the testers. For example, sometimes Tester 1 will say Brand C was their favorite and Tester 2 will say Brand C was their least favorite. That doesn’t happen often, but when it does I will generally not put Brand C on the list. Sometimes there will be a product on this list that none of the testers said was their favorite; that will happen when the testers had mostly very positive things to say about the product but it just wasn’t anyone’s favorite (or edited out for whatever reasons).
